CPE manages one of the world’s largest private equity funds dedicated to clean tech. Our goal is to back high growth clean tech companies that contribute to a lower carbon economy and a more sustainable environment and generate attractive returns for our investors.

We are very pleased to be backed by a world class group of institutional investors such as AlpInvest, Robeco, HSBC and Universities Superannuation Scheme.

We invest expansion capital into later stage companies and finance management buy-outs. We target investments in the high growth clean technology areas of:

  • Clean Power – renewable energy and cleaner fossil fuels
  • Clean Transport – biofuels and transport efficiency
  • Energy Efficiency – electricity grid improvements, storage solutions and energy efficient buildings, devices and processes
  • Waste Recovery – energy from waste and materials recycling
  • Water – desalination, advanced water treatment and water efficiency solutions

Investment Criteria:

Amounts – €5-25 million per portfolio company; larger amounts can be underwritten or arranged with our fund investors
Investment type – equity investment in minority or control-positions, typically as lead or co-lead investor
Transactions – expansion capital and buy-outs
Company types – product & services companies; developers & generators – i.e. companies rolling out assets to generate power or heat, produce fuels or treat waste
Company attributes – high growth potential in large addressable markets; proven technologies; clear path to profitability (if not already profitable)
Geography – primarily European headquartered companies.

CPE investment team 

CPE’s investment team has a combined experience of over 80 years in private equity and over 25 years in clean technology investment. We have extensive board level experience of supporting high growth companies and are able to support management teams in the areas of strategy, financing, team building, business development, acquisitions and realisations.

We benefit from Climate Change Capital’s unrivalled specialist industry, policy and market knowledge in energy, clean technologies and carbon finance. Climate Change Capital employs over 150 people and has over US $1.6 billion under management through our international presence in London, Beijing, Madrid, Zurich and Washington.
